Über Adina Friis

Adina Friis (*1988) ist Komponistin, Jazz-Pianistin, Sängerin, Songwriterin und Texterin. Ihre Lieder nehmen das Publikum mit auf eine Reise in verwunschene Welten, wecken Fragen und lassen darüber nachdenken, was auf unserer Welt geschieht, ohne dabei die Poesie zu vernachlässigen. Adina Friis ist als vielseitige Musikerin tätig:
In der Spielzeit 2017-2019 trug sie die Verantwortung für die musikalische Gestaltung der «Berner Reden» im Konzerttheater Bern mit Philipp Tingler & Gästen – u.a. mit Elke Heidenreich, Gregor Gysi und Jean Ziegler. 2016 stand Adina, ebenso im Konzerttheater Bern, mit «Die Gegenaufklärung» von und mit Jürg Halter und Endo Anaconda auf der Bühne. Für das «Teatro Dalla Piazza» schreibt Adina seit 2015 die Musik zu «Oliver Twist», «Igraine von Bibernell», «Herr der Diebe», «Phantasiens Unendliche Geschichte» und «Spazzacamini». Sie wurde 2015 mit dem Kulturförderpreis der AZ Medien und 2013 mit dem Kulturförderpreis des Kantons Solothurn ausgezeichnet.
2018 schloss Adina Friis ihre Ausbildung an der Hochschule Luzern als «Master of Arts in Musikpädagogik» ab. 2019 erwarb sie den CAS «Komposition für Film, Theater und Medien» an der Zürcher Hochschule der Künste. In Dänemark studierte Adina im Erasmusprogramm «Master of Arts in Music Performance/Composition» an der RMC Kopenhagen und Gesang am «Complete Vocal Institute».
Schon früh hat Adina eine persönliche musikalische Sprache gefunden, welche sich in ihrem Klavierspiel und Gesang, sowie in den Kompositionen, Liedern und Texten zeigt. Das Jazztrio «Luumu» ist ihr musikalisches Herzensprojekt, mit welchem sie ihre persönlichsten Gedanken und Vorstellungen in Kunst verwandelt und dabei manchmal in Sphären taucht, die nicht ganz von dieser Welt zu sein scheinen. Die Kompositionen für Luumu sind an der Grenze von zeitgenössischem und lyrischem Jazz und Folk und weisen Elemente von Weltmusik aller Art auf, skandinavischem Folk und filmmusikalischen sowie impressionistischen Elementen. Die Lieder bestehen aus signifikanten Melodien, aus komponierten sowie improvisierten Instrumentalteilen und poetischen Texten. Auf diese Weise gelingt es Adina mit Luumu immer wieder aufs Neue, eine einzigartige Klangwelt zu erschaffen. Zusammen mit der Animationsfilmemacherin Joana Locher hat sie zwei Animationskurzfilme zu Liedern von Luumu veröffentlicht, welche diese verwunschene Traumwelt auf visueller Ebene verdeutlichen und die weltweit an Filmfestivals gezeigt wurden. Das Trio Luumu, zusammen mit dem Bassisten Simon Iten und dem Schlagzeuger Andy Schelker, spielt seit 2010 regelmässig Konzerte im In- und Ausland u.a. am Blue Balls Festival in der Seebar des KKL, am Jazzfestival und im Jazzhouse Copenhagen, im Porgy & Bess in Wien oder am Nordklang Festival St. Gallen und hat bis heute drei Studioalben veröffentlicht.
Alle diese Erfahrungen haben Adina immer weiter in Richtung Filmmusik geführt. 2020 durfte sie zum ersten Mal ihr Können als Filmkomponistin zum SRF Spielfilm «Eden für Jeden» unter der Regie von Rolf Lyssy unter Beweis stellen, welcher am Zürich Filmfestival 2020 Premiere feierte und an seiner Fernsehpremiere eine halbe Million Menschen vor den Bildschirm lockte. Am Zürich Filmfestival des selben Jahres wurde sie zum ersten Mal für eine öffentliche Werkanalyse (Case Study) am «Soundtrack Zurich» als Gast zusammen mit Rolf Lyssy und Niki Reiser eingeladen um über den Kompositionsprozess zu berichten. 2021 wurde sie als Moderatiorin am selben Festival eingeladen, wo sie die Werkanalyse der französischen James Bond Parodie «OSS 117: From Africa With Love» (Cannes Filmfestival Abschlussfilm 2021) mit der Komponistin Anne-Sophie Versnaeyen leitete. 2022 leitete sie ein Gespräch mit NilsPetter Molvær.
Nebst ihrer Bühnentätigkeit als Solokünstlerin und mit Luumu hat sie sich in den letzten Jahren besonders der Komposition und dem Arrangieren für grössere Besetzungen verschrieben. So etwa im aktuellen Projekt mit dem «vocal ensemble Stimmig!» für welches sie ein szenisches Werk für Chor und Kammerorchester zum Thema «Leben in Angesicht des Todes» geschrieben und im Juni 2023 schweizweit aufgeführt hat.

She was awarded the Cultural Promotion Prize of AZ Medien in 2015 and the Cultural Promotion Prize of the Canton of Solothurn in 2013.
In 2018, Adina Friis completed her education at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts as a «Master of Arts in Music Education». In 2019 she acquired the CAS «Composition for Film, Theatre and Media» at the Zurich University of the Arts. In Denmark, Adina studied in the Erasmus programme «Master of Arts in Music Performance/Composition» at RMC Copenhagen and singing at the «Complete Vocal Institute».
Early on, Adina found a personal musical language, which is evident in her piano playing and singing, as well as in her compositions, songs and lyrics. The jazz trio «Luumu» is her musical project of the heart, with which she transforms her most personal thoughts and ideas into art, sometimes diving into spheres that seem not quite of this world. The compositions for Luumu are on the border of contemporary and lyrical jazz and folk and feature elements of world music of all kinds, Scandinavian folk and film music as well as impressionistic elements. The songs consist of significant melodies, composed as well as improvised instrumental parts and poetic lyrics. In this way, Adina and Luumu always succeed in creating a unique world of sound. Together with the animation filmmaker Joana Locher, she has released two animated short films to Luumu songs, which illustrate this enchanted dream world on a visual level and have been shown at film festivals worldwide. The trio Luumu, together with bassist Simon Iten and drummer Andy Schelker, has been playing regular concerts at home and abroad since 2010, including at the Blue Balls Festival in the Seebar of the KKL, at the Jazz Festival and Jazzhouse Copenhagen, at the Porgy & Bess in Vienna or at the Nordklang Festival St. Gallen, and has released two studio albums to date.
All these experiences have led Adina further and further in the direction of film music. In 2020, she was allowed to prove her skills for the first time as a film composer for the SRF feature film «Eden für Jeden» directed by Rolf Lyssy, which premiered at the Zurich Film Festival 2020 and attracted half a million people in front of the screen at its television premiere. At the Zurich Film Festival of the same year, she was invited for the first time for a public work analysis (case study) at «Soundtrack Zurich» as a guest together with Rolf Lyssy and Niki Reiser to report on the composition process. In 2021 she was invited as a moderator at the same festival, where she led the work analysis of the French James Bond parody «OSS 117: From Africa With Love» (Cannes Film Festival closing film 2021) with composer Anne-Sophie Versnaeyen. In 2022 she led a conversation with NilsPetter Molvær.
In addition to her stage activities as a solo artist and with Luumu, in recent years she has devoted herself in particular to composition and arranging for larger ensembles. For example, in the current project with the «vocal ensemble Stimmig!» for which she has written a scenic work for choir and chamber orchestra on the theme of «Life in the Face of Death» and which will be performed throughout Switzerland in June 2023.
